The Optare Excels with Stagecoach East Midlands do not seem to have performed well since their re-allocation to Hull with just two remaining in service - 35007 and 35015. 35008/10/11/14 are now for disposal and 35013 has recently been sold. Volvo B10M coaches 52621/59 have transferred to Stagecoach Highlands at Inverness. Further vehicles sold and no longer part of the fleet are Volvo B10M 52143; MAN/ALX300s 22701 and 22802 along with Tridents 17478/87, 17503/88/89, 17679 and 18037 - the former Stagecoach London Tridents were only transferred to this fleet for component recovery and were not operated.
At Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire newly-converted MAN/ALX300 training bus 22121 is allocated to Barrow, whilst Volvo B10M training vehicle 52030 is now part of the training fleet at West Cumbria. It is also understood that more ex London Tridents will be allocated to Stagecoach Midlands and converted to Open Top for used on Stratford upon Avon City Sightseeing duties.
Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire has now completed work to convert Plaxton President-bodied Dennis Trident 17692 to open top. The vehicle was damaged in collision with a low bridge in Bedford last year when in use with Stagecoach East. We don’t normally include photographs on the Fleet Ramblings page but have made an exception. We are also including a photo of former Norfolk Green Optare Solo 47881, which is now also with Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire and is in the final stages of conversion to an information/publicity vehicle.
East Yorkshire Motor Services has confirmed that it has now sold Optare Excel’s 250/52/53/54 and 296. The new Volvo B5TL/MCV EvoSeti double deck for this fleet was exhibited at the recent ALBUM conference. It is confirmed as H45/30F and has returned to MCV for finishing off before formal handover. EYMS Chairman and Chief Executive has suggested that once delivered it is likely to be allocated to one of the smaller depots to reduce the number of drivers that need to be type trained on it.
The suggested transfer of Stagecoach East Dart SLF 34580 from Cambridge to King’s Lynn took place at the end of last week and it was seen in service yesterday. Its stay at King’s Lynn may, however, be short as we believe it is being transferred to Stagecoach East Midlands in the coming months. We also now believe that the Optare Solo being transferred to this fleet from Stagecoach Manchester, 47470, may in fact be for Bedford rather than Cambridge/Ely.
Look out for the delivery of the first new Optare Solo SR’s for Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire’s Carlisle depot in the next few weeks. They will replace Enviro 200s.
No vehicles with Stagecoach Yorkshire now carry Sheffield Route 83 and Route 87 branding and in Chesterfield Route 39 branding has been removed from Optare Solos 47318/20-22. A further ex Stagecoach London Trident to be re-registered is 17790 which now carries the cherished plate PHE692. We understand that the Optare Excels at Chesterfield are to be taken out of service and become training vehicles in this fleet.

The former ex Stagecoach London dual door Tridents recently transferred to Stagecoach Midlands from Stagecoach Manchester are being converted to single door layout and repainted into corporate Stagecoach colours at Bus & Coach World, Blackburn.
Further repaints reported by East Yorkshire Motor Service are 310 and 337 whilst coaches 89 and 90 have been re-registered A6EYC and A8EYC.
Look out for three more ex Stagecoach Manchester Tridents entering service at Stagecoach East Midlands -18282/85/89, which will allow three more Volvo Olympians to be taken out of service with the likely vehicles being 16143, 16455 and 16880. Once out of service 16880 will be transferred to Stagecoach East for donation to Fourfields Community Primary School in Peterborough. These changes will leave just seven operational Olympians on the books at Lincoln depot which are 16131/33/48/51/69, 16456 and 16582. All of the MAN/ALX300s that were delicenced are now for disposal along with Dart SPD 33849.
The Anglia & Thames Valley Bus Forum has reported that Stagecoach East’s E400 19619, which had been on loan to Stagecoach Yorkshire for Supertram work has been returned and it is believed a further two vehicles have also been returned to their operating companies. The next phase of the Supertram work starts in June which will require further vehicles but in the interim it is understood that five of the loaned E400s will be sub-loaned by Stagecoach Yorkshire to Stagecoach South at Winchester for special services in connection with a golf tournament.
